Dr.Michael L.Brownstein is a Board Certified plastic surgeon, and a member of ASPS, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, specializing in plastic, reconstructive, and gender related surgery. He has performed gender related surgery since the late 1970's when, with the advice and support of Paul Walker, co-founder and former President of the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association, now WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health), he received the first of his many referrals for bilateral chest reconstruction.

A graduate of the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, Dr. Brownstein received general surgery training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California and the University of New Mexico. After an additional two years of specialty training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, he opened his practice in 1975. He is well published in his area of expertise including microsurgical, plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Brownstein is a member of national plastic surgery organizations and societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of WPATH (formerly HBIGDA) and currently serves on the Board of Directors, as Chairman of the Ethics Committee, and is a member of the Standards of Care Committee.

Surgery is performed at state of the art San Francisco surgical facilities assisted by staff familiar with the procedures and sensitive to the unique needs and concerns of his patients. Dr. Brownstein has privileges at acute care hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Dr. Brownstein frequently lectures at gender related conferences. While at these conferences, he routinely makes himself available for complimentary consultations to address your individual needs and suggest a surgical technique beneficial to conference attendees.
